Councilor Colen is a second term Councilor in the Municipality of Mercedes, Camarines Norte. She is a third-generation public servant from her family. She finds joy in baking and cooking for family and friends and is a budding "agriprenuer". She is a devoted single mother to her 10-year old son.
Her journey in public service began when she served as an Executive Assistant in the local government under the tourism office. Her passion for public service blossomed and she helps champion community-based ecotourism activities and enterprises,believing that community stakeholders with the government as a catalyst plays a vital role in tourism development.
Councilor Colen is an advocate for the empowerment of the marginalized sectors in particular the PWDs, Seniors, Women and Children, people's participation, environmental protection, ecotourism development and government transparent and sound fiscal management.
Being a young public servant, Councilor Colen strives to be an effective and transparent leader. She learned as a YLGG fellow the importance of setting standards in every project in order to measure success. In doing her project under the YLGG Program entitled, "Catandunganon Community-Based Ecotourism Livelihood Project", it became a roadmap in assisting the community stakeholders in Catandunganon to achieve the goal of environmental conservation vis a vis ecotourism development. To date, the initial success in Catandunganon paved the way to adapt this to other barangays.
