Trina is currently serving her second term as Mayor of the vibrant town of Odiongan, Romblon.
Prior to this, she had been Chief of Staff of the Office of the Governor and Political Affairs Officer at the House of Representatives. In the course of her work, Trina had encountered firsthand the problems that people grappled with on a daily basis. She also saw the vast untapped potential of governance that could be harnessed. This encouraged her to run for public office in 2016.
As mayor, Trina tries to work for inclusive and ecologically balanced development. With her team, she tries to generate economic and livelihood opportunities, and provide social services and programs for marginalized sectors. She advocates for empowerment for the youth and for women, and tries to use data and metrics to measure the gains that the LGU’s programs and projects are making.
Through YLGG, Trina learned more about the importance of collaborative and citizen-centered governance. She gained insight and tools on how to develop and cultivate partnerships towards stakeholder engagement and crafting responsive, timely programs. She learned about strategic planning, civic education and engagement, how to develop governance policies and priorities, and how to come up with and flesh out proposals and projects for the community. Through the program, Trina was able to come up with a mental health program for the youth of her town. More importantly, YLGG gifted Trina with a support network of like-minded government officials, treasured friendships, and a renewed sense of public service.
