LEGO 3 Mayor Fellows visit Naga City for Module 2

Last October 17–19, the Jesse M. Robredo Foundation and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Philippines successfully conducted Module 2 of the Leadership and Governance (LeGo) Fellowship Program for Mayors. Held at the Center for Good Governance, Naga City, the three-day program emphasized the process and importance of bridging local governance with civil society. On Day One, the fellows visited the Naga City Hall for a benchmarking activity with different department heads to learn how different sectors are engaged in participatory governance. The day concluded with a dialogue with Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo, who shared valuable insights and inspiration on inclusive leadership. Day two was dedicated to in-depth discussions on the Naga City People’s Council (NCPC). Various representatives from different sectors discussed the council’s formation and evolution, as well as Naga’s experience in strengthening local communities through the People’s Council. Panel discussions were also initiated to share experiences on encouraging citizen participation, emphasizing the importance of empowering citizens to take an active role in local governance. On the final day, fellows participated in workshops aimed at strengthening their own people empowerment initiatives. They created pledges as a commitment to taking concrete action toward inclusive decision-making and participatory governance in their respective localities. Module 2 ended with an inspiring tour of the JMR Museum, where fellows reflected on the legacy of Sec. Jesse M. Robredo and his vision of servant leadership. We thank KAS Philippines, representatives from Naga City local government, and our mayor-fellows for their presence and support. We hope that the program will bear fruit towards a more empowering and inclusive governance in the Philippines.
